Embracing Grief Six Years Later (written by my sister!)
In the News:
I want to take on a photography project. I really enjoy taking pictures but I’m not great at it and I know the only way to get better is to practice.
I like this photography project because it seems unique. Granted, I could be totally wrong since I don’t follow many photography blogs but I think it looks fun.
I LOVE this project because it involves coffee and I love anything coffee!
It’s the beginning of May and I want to start something today. I told Adam he should be the subject of all my photos. hahaha! I don’t think he really liked that idea. LOL
Do you guys have ideas for photography projects?
I did a TON of cooking over the weekend. After reading this post from ContempoPaleo I was pretty inspired to make some pulled pork so we’d have some easy, ready-to-eat meals during the week. Here’s my start:
I put my dry rub on the pork butt on Saturday and then let the butt sit all night and all day Sunday. Sunday evening I put the butt in the crockpot and cooked it all night. I didn’t put any liquids in with the butt just let it cook in its own juices.
It was super easy and so far I’ve made pulled bbq pork, and a kale, sweet potato, pork stew. And I was able to freeze what was leftover after those two meals (by the way, we have leftovers from those meals too!). The butt cost around $20 but I think having several meals ready to go is worth it! I did forget to take picture of it after it was finished cooking but let me tell you: it was falling apart! Soo moist and tender.
Per Adam’s request I also took some chicken breast and sliced them into strips and cooked them in a frying pan for another quick meal:
My sister posted this salad on my facebook wall.
I LOVE kale and couldn’t wait to try it! I am sooo glad I did. Yesterday, I ate it for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. I love, love, love it! Doesn’t it look amazing?!
I left the avocados out because I’m not a fan but if you like ’em, I say add ’em!
Sunday, for the church picnic I was going to make strawberry filled cupcakes because I read this blog and just had try it!
But…. my go-to recipe for cakes, cupcakes, etc, decided to get funky on me. It was sooo salty and I didn’t even put salt in it. So to cover up the salt taste I put in more sugar and then when I baked my cupcakes they fell…. So I made a trifle.
This is a bad instagram picture but as you can see my cupcakes fell apart. So I sent Adam to the store for some whipped topping, cooked my fresh strawberries in some sugar and mashed ’em up, and then layer, layer, layer! SUPER easy and it comes out tasting like strawberry short-cake. Amazing.
So if you ever start a baking project and it goes haywire, just remember you can probably turn it into something else just as tasty! We did have some leftovers so I sent them to the church office Monday morning with Adam so it would be eaten by someone else!
Adam and I started P90X yesterday. I’m very excited about us doing this workout in addition to my C25K runs. Fat be gone! 🙂
Let’s be honest: I’m not the greatest blogger.
In fact, I’m really not that good at all. I tend to grab on to one subject and write about it for two or three post before I’m on to something else. Occasionally, I have a random rant about something or another (things I should probably keep to myself). And my title, “Keeping Up With The Joneses” should read more like, “Keeping Up With Lydia’s Attempts at Weight Loss”.
While I do enjoy blogging I know I’m not inspiring or motivational; I’m not trying to start a movement about a great cause; nor is my life really all that interesting. But for whatever reason (probably the fact that she’s my sister), Bethany from Cluttered Adventures, nominated me for the Sunshine Award.
If nominated then you’ve brought someone a ray of sunshine with your blog. It is to be encouraging to bloggers and it is for sure.
Rules as follow:
A. post the “sunshine award” logo (above) somewhere on your blog. B. answer ten fun questions about yourself (below) and C. nominate anywhere from 10 to 15 other bloggers for this award.
Blogs I nominate:
I have been a fan of Andy Merrick for a couple years. His blog will challenge you to rethink how you are facing people, difficult decisions, and life in general. I love reading his stuff. And I think you will too.
I can’t even remember how I found his blog (probably through twitter) but when he started writing “Why Guys Aren’t Asking You Out” I was hooked (I actually think that was the first post of his I ever read!). It was 2009, I was single and hating it, and God used Andy’s posts to really make me think about what I was doing….
Then there is the “After-Lunch Breakdance” that brought a big laugh to my day and made the workday seem less daunting.
And let’s not forget the fact that Andy is just a great writer. Every post just sucks me right in and I am unable to do anything else but read that blog post. You will enjoy his blog sooo much!
So go read it!

The first weekend in March a lot happened for the Jones family.
1) we went on vacation to the mountains of GA.
2) we saw my brother get married (what a ceremony! One of the bridesmaids passed out in the middle of the whole thing!)
3) we spent the weekend with my family in a cabin.
4) we saw my adorable nephew, Madden
5) Adam killed a scorpion
6) i forgot my salad bowl and my picnic bag
7) we had a 30 minute discussion on homeschooling
8) Adam met my crazy relatives from my moms side of the family
9) both Adam and i got our hair cut. His by a woman and mine by a man.
10) we rented a Kia Soul and I’m in love with that vehicle
And that sums up the beginning of March for us!
